The Challenge
As the hospital expanded its international engagement—caring for foreign patients and sending clinicians overseas for observational placements—it encountered a significant communication barrier.
Although the medical team possessed strong clinical expertise, many lacked confidence, fluency and precision in English when communicating in real clinical situations.

- Inconsistent use of standardised English medical documentation
- Hesitation and misunderstandings during cross-cultural interactions
Recognising these needs, the hospital sought a practical, scenario-based training solution to rapidly strengthen clinicians’ English communication skills in real clinical settings.

Tailored Medical English Empowerment Programme
1. Customised Curriculum
Built around real hospital workflows and clinical interactions, the programme was delivered by our UK-based Medical English specialist, as part of the Mediversity Global Healthcare Talent Initiative. Each session was designed to address the hospital’s specific communication needs.
2. Scenario-Based Learning
Twelve high-value clinical scenarios ensured maximum relevance, covering situations such as:
- Outpatient consultations
- Explaining diagnoses and treatment plans
- Peri-operative and post-operative communication
- Ward rounds and patient updates
- Managing questions, concerns and expectations
- Communicating with international colleagues and visiting specialists
3. Highly Interactive Online Training
Participants practised English in real time through:
- Small-group role-play activities
- Structured and guided clinical dialogues
- Individualised feedback and correction
- Confidence-building speaking tasks designed for medical contexts
4. Core Skills Strengthened
The programme focused on developing three essential competencies:
- Cross-cultural doctor–patient communication
- Effective international teamwork and case discussion
- Accurate, standardised medical documentation and terminology use
